I was born and raised in Wisconsin, and currently reside there. I love cheese popcorn, photography, crafting, animals, and nature, and am teaching myself to play the piano, an unfulfilled ambition left over from my childhood.
As a young girl I was drawn to horror and the supernatural. Whenever my family visited my grandparents I would hide under my grandmother’s desk to read a few pages of her copy of Dracula because I knew the adults would not approve of my choice of reading material. My parents allowed me to watch the original Outer Limits tv series because they thought I was too young to really understand what I was watching (they were wrong!). My favorite authors are H. P. Lovecraft, August Derleth, William Hope Hodgson, Algernon Blackwood, M. R. James, Robert McCammon, Stephen King, and other masters of the horror genre.
I enjoy depicting ordinary people caught up in extraordinary situations. I believe that in real life, as well as in fiction, people show their true selves when faced with danger, and how they react reveals their true natures. Writing horror fiction is also a lot of fun. If I have caused one person to sleep with the lights on for a month or avert their eyes from the windows of their darkened house as they pull into the driveway, I feel I’ve done my job.
My personal philosophy of horror is that knowledge is power, and it is better to turn and face what’s coming to get you instead of letting it pounce upon your back without warning.
